Akagera National Park is Rwanda’s only savannah-based park and its premier destination for classic wildlife safaris. Located in eastern Rwanda along the border with Tanzania, the park covers 1,122 square kilometers of diverse landscapes including rolling hills, expansive plains, and the largest protected wetland in Central-Eastern Africa.
Check out at your hotel and set off for Akagera National Park. Stop en route at the Imigongo Art Center and restaurant for a coffee break, after which you will continue driving toward the park reception.
At 08:00 am, arrive at the park headquarters for tour formalities and a briefing. After breakfast, immediately set off for your game drive, where you will be able to spot a wide variety of wild animals such as elephants, buffalo, lions, giraffes, gazelles, impalas, baboons, oribi, Burchell’s zebra, topis, bushbuck, and leopards.
You will also see crocodiles and hippos, together with a large concentration of birdlife, with over 525 identified species. Rejoin your driver-guide and proceed for a game viewing drive in the northern part of the park, followed by a picnic lunch.
